Distinguishing pastries made of layers of sponge and frosting from other inanimate objects has seemingly always been, well, a piece of cake.
But Twitter and TikTok users are eating up a new viral trend, sharing reactions to hyper-realistic cake-cutting videos that shock viewers when it's revealed that an everyday object was in fact, cake.
The first video that sparked mass cake hysteria on July 8 showed what appeared to be a red Croc shoe get cut in half only to reveal a yellow cake with light pink filling. It also showed everything from a fresh coconut, a platter of grilled vegetables, a bottle of lotion, even a potted aloe vera plant -- all cakes.
More videos, images and reactions continued to make the rounds on social media of intricate cakes made to look exactly like a bag of chips, toilet paper, a glass of water and even fresh produce. Nothing is unbakeable.
Supermodel Chrissy Teigen, rapper Lil Nas, comedian Ben Schwartz, Oscar-winning filmmaker Matthew Cherry and more all responded to the dessert deception.
