A pediatrician can now call herself "mom" after becoming a proud parent to one of her patients and his sibling.
Dr. Arveitta Edge of Noble, Oklahoma, met her 10-year-old son D.J. when he came to her office for a checkup with his foster parents. Edge later met D.J.'s biological sister, Brianna, 7.
"I thought, 'Oh my gosh, he's such a sweet-natured child," Edge said. "There was an instant bond, an instant click. Brianna, she's incredibly smart and has a wicked sense of humor."

Edge told "Good Morning America" she always wanted to foster and adopt a child. She had even mentioned it to D.J.'s foster parents during his visit.
"Two years later they contacted me," Edge said. "I remember thinking, 'They want me to take those children.' We met and that was that."
"When things like that happen, you have to say, 'That's a God thing' and 'Yes, I'm going to do it.'"
Edge fostered D.J. and Brianna before adopting them on May 11, 2020, via a Zoom video conference.
The brother and sister's former foster family, friends and loved ones were all present.

The adoption team that placed D.J. and Brianna with Edge said the kids' foster parents advocated for Edge to be their mother.
"She got attached to the children and asked if she could adopt them," a representative of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services told "GMA." "They were placed in October of last year and now everything is finalized."
Edge said she hopes to adopt again and D.J. and Brianna are excited to have more siblings.
"They're ready now," she added.
