Celebrities pushed fashion boundaries at the 70th annual Met Gala on Monday night.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, or Met Gala, is considered one of the biggest nights in fashion, and stars like Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Madonna and Emma Watson showed off their haute couture style on the red carpet before the benefit began.
The theme of this year's gala was "fashion in an age of technology," and many celebrities dressed to theme, sporting futuristic outfits.
Metallic tones were a big hit this year, with stars like Swift, Demi Lovato and Zayn Malik wearing gold and silver ensembles. Brie Larson, Kerry Washington and Kendall Jenner embraced the skin-bearing outfit trend, wearing dresses with high slits or cute cutouts.
One of the most talked about outfits was Claire Danes Fiber Optic Woven Organza Dress, designed by Zac Posen. 30 mini battery packs were sewn into the gown's understructure to make it light up in the dark.
"I went through a sequence of stages throughout the process of draping this gown, playing with motion and structure to capture the emotional engineering," Posen said in a statement to Fast Company. "The gown is hollow underneath with no tulle – holding its own structure."
