WATCH: Oscars 2016: Red Carpet Report

Before an Oscars trophy was handed out, all eyes were on the red carpet, to see what stars were wearing.

Fashion stylists and experts told ABC News to expect lots of sequins and drama on the red carpet -- and they were right.

Here are the fashion trends that stood out among the Hollywood crowd:

Dark Sequins

Sequins were expected on the red carpet, but in a new twist the stars wore dark sequins in jewel tones such as navy blue, deep purple and hunter green. The stars who wore this trend the best were Sofia Vergara wearing Marchesa, Saoirse Ronan in a Calvin Klein dress and Naomi Watts in Armani. Honorable mentions: Chrissy Teigen and Kevin Hart.

All White

One color stood out on the red carpet: white. Actors and actresses wore the color, including "Quantico" actress Priyanka Chopra in Zuhair Murad, Lady Gaga wearing a Brandon Maxwell pant-dress, and Common in all-white tuxedo. Honorable mention: Olivia Wilde.

Oscar Gold

Another trend hot on the Oscars red carpet this year was glittering gold. Several stars on the carpet looked reminiscent of the golden statuettes to be handed out later that evening, including "Suicide Squad" actress Margot Robbie, "Good Morning America" anchor Robin Roberts and actor Orlando Jones.

The Academy Awards air tonight beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
