"Grey's Anatomy" star Kevin McKidd is getting nostalgic as the show celebrates a major milestone.
McKidd, who has played Owen Hunt on the series since he joined in season 5, took to Instagram earlier this week to share a throwback photo in honor of the iconic ABC primetime medical drama's first-ever episode, which premiered 18 years ago on March 27, 2005.
The behind-the-scenes photo, taken nine years ago, shows him standing alongside Sandra Oh as she rests her head on his shoulder and James Pickens Jr., who is standing behind them. All three are smiling big for the camera.
Oh's character, Cristina Yang, was in an on-off relationship with McKidd's character before the actress departed the show in season 10.
Pickens, who plays Richard Webber, is one of two original cast members still on the show. Only he and Chandra Wilson, who plays Miranda Bailey, remain after Ellen Pompeo's recent exit as a series regular.
The 18th anniversary of the premiere of "Grey's Anatomy" comes on the heels of the series being renewed for a landmark 20th season on ABC and Meg Marinis being named showrunner, replacing outgoing showrunner Krista Vernoff.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 19 comes to a close Thursday, May 18, on ABC.
