Gwyneth Paltrow Reveals Why She and Chris Martin Split

WATCH: Gwyneth Paltrow's 'Conscious Uncoupling' With Chris Martin Explained

Last year, Gwyneth Paltrow shocked fans by announcing that she and her husband, Chris Martin, were splitting.

Now, she's opening up a bit about how she and the Coldplay frontman decided to separate after more than a decade of marriage.

"There was nothing dramatic or anything. I had built my life on trying to be all things to all people, and I just couldn’t do it anymore," she told Marie Claire for its February issue. "I really had the sense that I wasn’t allowed to have needs, and I had to prove my specialness or self-worth by doing all this stuff and taking care of everybody else, and I just sort of hit a wall."

Paltrow, 42, and Martin, 37, have two children together, daughter Apple, 10, and son Moses, 8.

Since the separation, which Paltrow famously termed a "conscious uncoupling," the whole family has been seen out and about together, with the exes looking very friendly.

"We’ve worked really f****** hard to get to [this] point. But we’re very, very close, and it’s so nice," she said. "I feel like it’s, in a way, the relationship we were meant to have."
