Dolly Parton says she, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin are making progress on the sequel to their 1980 smash, "9 to 5."

"Well, it's actually pretty far down the road,” she told the Knoxville News Sentinel.

“They got the first rewrite, and we've made some changes," she continued. "So now we're into the second rewrite, so it's just a matter of getting all of our characters right and making sure that it's the right thing.”

Previously, they’ve revealed that the new movie will focus on a younger generation of women who work at the same company and reach out to the original three women for help.

"The studio, they have their notes,” Dolly continues. “The producers have their notes. We have our notes as actresses, like 'my character's like this … oh, we need to do this, do that.' So it's just a work in progress, but it's progressing."

So far, we don’t know the timeline for the new film adaptation to make it to the big screen.

Meanwhile, Dolly’s eight-episode anthology series based on her songs, titled "Heartstrings," is set to premiere on Netflix in the fall. A new holiday musical, "Christmas" on the Square, is on the way as well.
